Periodontics – Prevent Gum Disease
Gum Disease Diagnosis
We conduct a thorough examination to diagnose the presence and extent of gum disease.
Scaling and Root Planing (SRP) aka Deep Cleanings
Gingivitis, Periodontitis or gum disease can be treated with different treatment modalities. The symptoms of gum disease include but not limited to swollen, tender, painful and bleeding gums, bad breath, and noticeable pus. If left untreated, it can lead tooth loss. If you have a healthy mouth, your pocket depths should be 2-3mm. We will do a careful evaluation of your gums to check if you need extra care with recommended deep cleanings, a non-surgical procedure. Periodontal disease is irreversible, but the damaging effects can be minimized through a deep cleaning procedure called Scaling and Root Planing (SRP). Patients with periodontal disease have deep pockets where dental plaque and tartar buildup. Our experienced dental hygienists use special tools to gently clean plaque and tartar from your teeth and below the gum-line. These treatments help gum reattach to teeth. You may be recommended additional antibiotic treatment Arestin to eliminate bacteria from deep pockets.
Scaling and Root Planing (SRP) aka Deep Cleanings
Osseous surgery may be recommended if the non-surgical treatment like Scaling and Root Planing (SRP) is not sufficient to treat the disease. If left untreated, periodontal disease can cause tooth loss.
